Throughout the year, RECORD publishes several special features on the best in contemporary architecture—from our annual profiles of emerging firms to standout residential projects and the best new architectural products. To have your work considered, browse our list of contests below. The Architectural Record Awards
RECORD has long celebrated architectural excellence in its pages. The Architectural Record Awards, to be inaugurated this fall, will supplement the print edition by recognizing the year’s best built and unbuilt projects and leading design voices at the annual Innovation Conference.
Record Interiors
For decades, this annual issue has celebrated noteworthy contributions to building interiors, where clever solutions and material choices take center stage. Architects and interior designers are welcome to submit projects that are primarily interior in scope.
Design Vanguard
Architectural Record’s annual Design Vanguard award program recognizes leading firms and individual practitioners who represent the promise of the next generation of architects. Every year since 2000, the editors have honored 10 international winners whose practices are 10 years old or less.
Record Houses
First established in 1956, the annual Record House issue showcases residential design that upends expectation, pushes disciplinary limits, and redefines established vocabularies in imaginative ways.
Kitchen & Bath
This competition highlights novel approaches to utilitarian kitchen and bath spaces, which can range from commercial and residential contexts to public infrastructure.
Record Products of the Year
RECORD’s long-running Best of Products competition heralds the best building materials and furnishings introduced to the North American market within the last year. A panel of architects and designers will judge the entries based on innovation, function, sustainability, and aesthetics. Winners will be published in the December 2024 issue of RECORD.
Cocktail Napkin Sketch
Calling all U.S.-based architects, students, and related professionals to enter our annual contest celebrating the art of the sketch! All you need is a white cocktail napkin and pen. Two grand prize winners (1 licensed architect, 1 related professional) will receive a $300 gift card and a set of cocktail napkins with their winning sketch printed on it. The winning sketches will be announced at our Innovation Conference in October and printed on napkins for use during the event. The sketches of the winners and runners-up will be published in our November 2025 issue and on our website.

Guess the Architect
